An IP address is the main network address of your personal computer on any network, including the Internet. They are divided into static and dynamic. If you plan to work in a global network, it is recommended to use a permanent IP address so that you can contact your PC at any time.
Instructions
Step 1
Contact your ISP to see if it is possible to change a dynamic IP address to a static one. As a rule, most Internet companies provide this service for a fee, which in some cases can be quite high. This is especially true for small settlements. If you are unable to change the dynamic IP address through your ISP, then you can use an alternative option.
Step 2
Take advantage of dynamic DNS technology, which provides a permanent domain name for a personal computer with a dynamic IP address. In this case, the information on the server is updated in real time. This feature is quite common and is provided by many dynamic providers. For example, by DynDNS, no-ip, TZO, FreeDNS and others.
Step 3
Select a dynamic provider for the DNS setup. There is no significant difference between them, while they differ only in the cost and variations of additional services. For example, you can register at www.no-ip.com. To register, enter your personal data and come up with a password, and be sure to indicate a real email, which will receive an activation letter.
Step 4
Log in to the DNS provider's website. To do this, log into the system using your username and password. Next, find the "Add host" section on the toolbar, specify in the "Hostname" field any name under which your personal computer will be registered in the system. Specify this name on the DDNS settings of your router or modem. If you access the Internet directly from your computer, then you will need to download special software on the site.
Step 5
Install a program that will allow you to get a permanent domain name. Specify in the settings the data that you fill out on the website of the DNS provider. On the main window, check the boxes for the hosts that correspond to this personal computer.
