The social network Vkontakte was launched in 2006, and Pavel Durov became its creator and developer. Since that time, it has changed a lot, not only in functionality and design, new owners have come to replace it. And where it is going now remains a mystery.
Today Vkontakte is the largest social network in Russia with a daily audience of over 60 million visitors. It turns out that approximately every 3 resident of the country visits his page at least once a day.
Politics within the company and change of leadership
After Pavel Durov sold his part of the shares and left the post of CEO, Mail.ru Group (51.99%) and the UCP investment fund (48%) took the helm. According to information from the former owner, this decision was made by him due to pressure from other shareholders and the government of the Russian Federation.
Special attention from the FSB to his person was due to the fact that on some public pages of the social network information was posted that did not correspond to the current policy and cast doubt on the actions of the state. Pavel was an active supporter of personal opinion and democracy, for which he paid, not wanting to reveal the identities of some people and close objectionable pages.
Today, the network is headed by people known for their investment portfolios and huge fortunes - real businessmen. Their desire is understandable, Vkontakte brings excellent profits and carries a huge investment potential, and the boundaries of its use are very diverse.
It makes no sense for these people to argue or refuse to the authorities and the state, in particular, so, perhaps, now some information will still "merge" where it is needed.
Development of a social network by users
Speaking about the functional development of a social network, nothing concrete can be said. We are constantly working on the development of new features that will make the use of the site even more convenient and accessible for all people.
Now this network has reached its peak, at which it will hold out, like Facebook, only it is even longer. Further tasks include only increasing the number of living users and strengthening its influence in various regions. Still, Vkontakte is more of a Russian-language social network and it would be great if they could bring it to the world level in order to compete with the main site.
Developers will have to pay special attention to mobile visitors and, possibly, make for them some additional functionality based on the capabilities of smartphones based on Android and iOS.
