Is the Internet a bottomless storehouse of useful information or a global trash can? Which side to look at. Fortunately, there are ways to avoid unexpected encounters with the dark side of the web. For example, in the Mozilla Firefox browser, there is an add-on Blocksite for this.

Necessary

  • - Browser Mozilla Firefox;
  • - Blocksite add-on.

Instructions

Step 1

Launch the Mozilla FireFox browser and open the add-ons window. This can be done in three different ways. First - click the "Tools" menu item, and then "Add-ons".

Step 2

If the main menu is missing, use the second method: click on the orange button labeled Firefox, which is located in the upper left corner of the program, and select "Add-ons". And third - click the hotkeys Ctrl + Shift + A. The Add-ons Management window appears.

Step 3

In the search bar located in the upper right corner of the window, enter "blocksite". Among the search engine results, find the line with Blocksite (next to the name there will be a number indicating the current version of the add-on) and click on the "Install" button. After the download is complete, click on "Restart Now". The browser will restart and then the Add-ons Management window will open again.

Step 4

Select Blocksite and click the Settings button. At the very top of the window that appears, there are five items. The first three: Enable Blocksite, which is responsible for enabling / disabling the add-on, Enable warning messages - for showing warning messages when trying to enter a prohibited site, Enable link removal - for cutting out direct links. The purpose of the Blacklist and Whitelist items will be discussed a little later.

Step 5

To add a site to the list, click the Add button, enter the domain name and click OK. To open the window for editing the domain name, click Edit, and when finished - OK.

Step 6

To remove a site from the list, select it and press Remove (the Delete key on your keyboard does not work in this case).

Step 7

Now about the purpose of the Blacklist and Whitelist items. Let's say you have already added several domains to the list. If you activate Blacklist, the sites on the list will be blocked. If Whitelist, then all sites that are not on the list. When you switch these items, the list remains unchanged, i.e. you will not be able to create a separate Whitelist and a separate Blacklist, and then switch between them. Perhaps this is the only inconvenience in working with this add-on.

Step 8

In addition, you can set a password to enter the Blocksite add-on settings. To do this, check the box next to Enable Authentication and enter the password in the New password field.
