The drive label is displayed with the drive letter and is used to identify the desired volume. Missing a label results in a value called Local Disk. Label sizes must not exceed 32 characters in NTFS file system or 11 characters in FAT.
Instructions
Step 1

Step 2
Go to the "Start" menu in order to perform the operation of changing the disk grid and go to "My Computer". Specify the volume to change the disk and press the F2 key. Then enter the required value for the new volume label in the required field and press the Enter key to confirm the command.

Go to Run, enter regedit in the Open field to run the utilities. Click the "OK" button to confirm the operation and open the registry branch. Change the value of the parameter @ = DISK disk_name as needed. Exit the registry editor in order to apply the selected changes.

Go back to the "Start" menu again, go to "Run" in order to perform the operation using the tool called "Command Prompt" to change the label of the selected volume.
Step 6
In the "Open" field, enter cmd, confirm the launch of the tool by clicking "OK". In the command text box, enter the value label drive_name: label. Press Enter to confirm the execution of the label change command.

Use the syntax label /? in order to get more information about the command that is used, or use the capabilities to facilitate automation and perform the editing process of the desired parameter, which is provided by specialized applications such as Disk Director Suite and Partition Manager.
