Even having one account with the provider, you can connect the Internet channel to several machines. Of course, the bandwidth of the channel will be distributed between them. In the past, ADSL providers have prevented their subscribers from using their modems in router mode rather than bridge mode. On the contrary, today they have begun to contribute to this.

Instructions

Step 1

Purchase a dedicated ADSL modem with a built-in router. Connect it to the subscriber line in the same way as a regular ADSL modem is connected (i.e., through a splitter), and then connect all your computers to it with Ethernet cables using their network cards. Cables must be crimped to the standard used to connect machines to networking equipment, not to each other. On all machines, regardless of the operating system (Linux or Windows), enable automatic obtaining of an IP address via DHCP. From one of them, go to the router's configuration page located at 192.168.1.1. Enter the username and password specified in the instructions for the device, and immediately change the password to a complex one, otherwise there will be a risk of virus infection of the router. Then, in the settings of the router, enter the details for Internet access issued by the provider. More detailed recommendations for configuring routers of various models are available on the websites of providers.

Step 2

To get the opportunity to use the Internet with an ADSL connection on computers, laptops, netbooks, tablets, PDAs, smartphones and phones equipped with a WiFi interface, purchase a special device that combines an ADSL modem and a WiFi router. Typically, you can connect up to four cars to it via wires, and up to five via WiFi. Be sure to ask your provider if the subscription agreement allows you to open the WiFi network. If it isn't, make it private. Proceed in the same way if the access is not unlimited.

Step 3

If you use a 3G modem, buy a special router designed to connect to it. First, put the modem in a mode in which it is not recognized as removable media by sending the AT command AT ^ U2DIAG = 0 to it. Connect the modem instead of a computer to the USB port of the router, and then connect up to four computers to it with cables. Then configure it from one of the machines via the web interface. Be especially careful when choosing an Access Point (APN). Be sure to connect an unlimited tariff.

Step 4

In case your mobile operator sells special pocket routers, purchase such a device. As a rule, it comes bundled with a SIM card with an unlimited tariff already connected. All settings in it are made in advance. You just need to turn on its power, and then connect up to five of any WiFi-equipped devices to it.
