You can use any computer to set up your own home Internet gateway. The only prerequisite is the presence of several free slots for connecting network cables or Wi-Fi devices.
Instructions
Step 1
If you need to create a local network between a stationary computer with Internet access and a laptop, use a Wi-Fi adapter. It can be either an external USB device or an internal adapter that plugs into a PCI slot on the motherboard.
Step 2
Purchase a Wi-Fi adapter and connect this equipment to your computer. Install the software required for setup according to the supplied instructions. Turn on the Wi-Fi adapter. Then open the "Network and Sharing Center" control panel on your computer. Select the "Manage Wireless Networks" section.
Step 3
Click the Add button. Give a name for your future network. Choose the optimal type of security from the options offered by the system. However, in this case, you can also use the Open type, since you still cannot connect more than one device to the Wi-Fi adapter. You will need to enter the administrator password to confirm your choice of other security types.
Step 4
Refer to the settings for the wireless network you created. Click the "Properties" button after selecting the "Internet Protocol TCP / IPv4 (or TCP / IPv6)" item. Enter the value of the static IP address in the string, for example, 165.167.176.1.
Step 5
Turn on the laptop and connect to the wireless network created with the adapter. Proceed to setting up this connection. Select the following values for "Internet Protocol TCP / IP": - IP address - 165.167.176.2 - Subnet mask - set by the system - Default gateway - 165.167.176.1 - DNS server - 165.167.176.1.
Step 6
Open the Network and Sharing Center on your desktop computer. Find the Access menu. Activate Internet Sharing by checking the box next to the corresponding item. Select and select a wireless network. Then activate your internet connection.
