When setting up a mail program on personal computers, users rarely remember to prevent the program from deleting downloaded messages from the mail server. As a result, at the very first check of the mailbox, all letters are transferred to the hard drive, and it becomes impossible to access them from another computer. But there may be important documents, passwords and a lot of other useful information. This problem can be solved by simple forwarding or using the IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) mail protocol.

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, disable downloading / deleting messages from the server in the settings of your mail program.

Step 2

There are two options for returning emails to the server. The choice in favor of this or that method depends on the number of letters returned.

Step 3

If there are few letters, you can use the message forwarding function. Just send yourself all the important emails. This method has two drawbacks. Firstly, you will lose the recipients of the letters, since you yourself will be listed as senders. And secondly, all letters will be marked with today's date, so try to send them in chronological order.

Step 4

The second option is more time consuming, but you will keep all your letters in their original form. In addition, you will download all messages at once, and not one by one, as in the previous version. Check if your email service supports IMAP protocol. Such email resources include, for example, Yandex and Gmail.

Step 5

If you use Mail.ru or any other service that does not support IMAP, create a new account in Yandex. Mail.

Step 6

Open your email program and create an account with your Yandex account data. Select the IMAP protocol in the server settings.

Step 7

Find the folder that contains all the emails that you would like to upload back to the server. Click on it with the right mouse button, select "Copy to folder …". In the window that opens, specify your new mail address and the folder to which these letters should be sent. Download them.

Step 8

Go to your old mail, open the settings. Select the "Mail collector" menu item and enter your address registered on Yandex. Mail. Go through the shipment confirmation process.

Step 9

Wait until all messages are downloaded to the server, and you will only have to sort them into folders.

Step 10

Check again that the "Do not delete messages from the server" item is checked in the settings of your mail program, and you will definitely not have to repeat the procedure for restoring messages.
