E-mail has become so deeply embedded in our lives that it has largely replaced traditional paper messages. Perhaps the main reason for its popularity is the speed of information transfer. But for this you need to at least correctly write down the email address of your interlocutor.
Any postal address used to send email has two main parts. They, in turn, are separated by a special service badge, which is popularly called a "dog".
Username
The part of the email address to the left of the service icon represents the name of the user who owns the address. As a rule, it is chosen by the user himself at the moment when he gets himself a new email address. Therefore, in fact, this part of the address can be almost any: for example, the name of a favorite character from a book, the name of the area where the user would like to visit, or any other concept can act in this capacity. At the same time, for reasons of business ethics and the possibility of identifying the owner of the address, people most often choose names that somehow reflect their real names or surnames. Some mail systems may impose simple restrictions on the choice of a name: for example, the name must not be shorter than three characters. In addition, in the event that the username you have chosen is already taken, the system will recommend that you choose another option.
domain name
The right side of the e-mail address, separated from the username by a service icon, is the name of the domain on which the person registered their mail. This part of the address actually represents information about where he is. The fact is that the section of the domain name, placed after the last dot, is the code of the country in which the email address is registered. Today, most countries in the world on the Internet have assigned their own code, which is also called a top-level domain. So, the code of Russia is the letter designation.ru, familiar to all Internet users in our country without exception. In this case, the set of letters to the right of the last dot in the email address can also be used to identify the location of your interlocutor. The part of the domain name between the "dog" and the last dot is an additional identifier that can reflect the company where the user operates, a city, or a popular postal service. This part of the email address is called a second-level domain. In addition, you may also come across the fact that in the email address to the right of the "dog" there are several parts, separated by dots. This means that the address uses a so-called third-level domain, which is created by the organization that owns the second-level domain to distinguish between its own divisions.
