The source code of the vast majority of pages on the Internet is written in HTML (HyperText Markup Language). It is a set of instructions ("tags") that contain information about the appearance and location of each element on the page. In addition, there is a group of tags that do not refer to specific elements, but to the entire page as a whole. The META tag also belongs to this group.
Instructions
Step 1
First, let's clarify what these meta tags look like and where exactly they should be inserted. Meta tags are built according to the same rules as any other HTML tags - the tag opens with a parenthesis <, and closes with a set of icons: space, slash, and the "/>" parenthesis. In addition to the name of the tag, additional information can be placed inside the brackets, which in this language is called the "attributes" of the tag. For META tags, one of the attributes is required - content, and of the other three, only the name attribute is often used. An example of a simple meta tag: There are two attributes, name and content. The value of the name attribute of this meta tag (keywords) means that the content attribute contains keywords by which search engines should classify the page content. Place the meta tags in the header part of the page source code, that is, inside a block that begins with a tag and ends with a tag. Usually they are placed inside this block right after the tag that contains the title of the page window, but this rule is optional.
Step 2
Having specified what and where to place, you can proceed to the practical part of the procedure. First, open the source code of the page for hosting the meta tags. If you have the ability to edit using the page editor from the content management system, then after opening the desired one, switch the editor from WYSIWYG mode (What You See Is What You Get) to HTML-code editing mode. If you do not use control systems, download the page file to your computer and open it in a regular text editor.
Step 3
Now, in the source code, you need to find the header block and put your meta tags inside it. This block is located almost at the very beginning of the page. You can't go wrong if you search for the string (without quotes) and insert your meta tags just before that tag.
Step 4
Now all that remains is to save the page with the added meta tags. If you did not use the page editor, but downloaded the file from the server, download it back, replacing the old one with the new one. It is most convenient to download and upload files using the file manager, which is available in the control panel of any hosting provider. The whole procedure in this case takes place directly in your browser.
