Even if you have unlimited Internet access, some providers, especially mobile operators, slow down the speed after reaching a certain amount of transmitted and received data. There are several ways to reduce traffic consumption while browsing and other WAN activities.
Instructions
Step 1
When watching videos on YouTube and other similar hosting services, find the resolution switch on the player. Reduce it to the minimum possible for the video you are watching (usually it is 240 lines). Remember that you will have to carry out this operation every time you start watching the next video.
Step 2
Similarly, you can reduce traffic when listening to Internet radio stations. Some of them offer a choice of sound quality. In practice, however, even when choosing the lowest possible data rate for a particular station, the sound is very high quality, but there are no periodic audio drops caused by buffering. Choose a link to the audio stream on the radio station's website that, on the one hand, matches the player you are using, and on the other hand, corresponds to the lowest possible speed.
Step 3
Great opportunities to reduce traffic open up when browsing regular sites. Disable displaying images, loading Flash applets. Download those of the images that you want to view separately (for example, if it is a captcha), and turn on Flash only when it is really necessary, in particular, when using the same video hosting sites. In the Opera browser, you can turn on / off the display of images and download Flash separately for each site. Another option is to enable these features in one of the available browsers and disable them in the other, and use each of them to view the respective sites. You can also install the Lynx text browser as an additional option (and Linix already has one).
Step 4
Also, if you are using the Opera browser, try turning it on Opera Turbo mode. This will allow you to browse sites through a proxy server, similar to how it happens when using the Opera Mini and UCWEB mobile browsers. When using any other browser, use a third-party compression service, the most famous of which is Skweezer (it got its name from the garbled English word squeezer - juicer).
