At the dawn of the existence of the Internet, its speed varied in the range of 28-56 kb / s. But only a few years have passed, and today providers promise everyone an Internet that works tens, or even hundreds of times faster.
Instructions
Step 1
Providers do not always fulfill their promises, and the real Internet speed turns out to be significantly less than the declared one. There are many opportunities to find out the real connection speed, but first let's figure out what constitutes the concept of Internet speed in general. Two concepts are used to define the speed: Download speed and Upload speed. Download is the speed at which your computer downloads files from the Internet, Upload is the speed at which it downloads them. Sometimes these two speeds are equal to each other, but often they differ, and very much. Upload can be several times lower than Download. The speed ratio will depend both on the type of Internet connection and on the conditions of the provider, according to which the Internet is delivered.
Step 2
You can check the speed of your Internet using a specialized online service, of which there are plenty of them today. Let's see how to do this using one of them as an example. Follow this link https://www.speedtest.net/ On the site you will see an image of a world map with a yellow star indicating your location. To determine the speed, click on the Begin Test button. After this action, a speedometer will appear on the screen, which will display the speed with which the site will download the test file to your computer. When measuring speed, disable all applications that can affect the measurement. This can be downloading files, Internet radio, watching an online movie, and so on. When the measurement is complete, you will be shown a second speedometer, which will already display the speed at which the file being tested will be uploaded from the computer back to the server. At the end of the measurement, you will be shown a page with the results. In the above table, you will find out the obtained Download and Upload values. For informational purposes, they will write to you the name of your provider, the place where you are now. At the bottom of the table, you will see two buttons, thanks to which you can insert the resulting table int
your site or forum.
Step 3
There will be another table nearby, which, based on the obtained measurement, will show how much time you may need to perform certain actions on the network. For example, the download time of a 5 MB MP3 file, a 35 MB video clip, or an 800 MB movie. If the obtained speed measurement results are very different from what your provider promised, repeat the measurement after a while. Try to use another similar service, if that one confirms that the real speed of your Internet is less than the declared one, you have every right to contact your provider for an explanation.
