It is difficult to imagine a modern computer without a stable and correct connection to the Internet - the owner of a computer that does not have access to the network experiences a lot of inconveniences, and therefore, if you have a computer that is not connected to the network, you can easily fix this situation. Setting up the Internet in the Windows XP operating system is quite simple, and it also allows you not only to connect one computer to the Internet, but also to combine several computers at once into a local network.

Instructions

Step 1

To connect to a network, your computer must be equipped with a network card. If you want to connect more machines to the computer, a second network card must be installed on it.

Step 2

Configure the Internet while logged into an administrator account. Open Start and go to Control Panel. Then open the "Network and Internet Connections" section. In the window that opens, select the "Network Connections" section. Select the desired connection from the list and right-click on it, then select properties.

Step 3

In the properties window, open the "Advanced" tab and on the "Internet Connection Sharing" tab, check the "Allow other network users to connect to the Internet from this computer" line. Also check the box next to the line "Set up a call on demand". Confirm all changes.

Step 4

Your network card will be assigned a local IP address 192.168.0.1 and a subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

In order to connect to the Internet any other computer connected to the network with a server computer, configure it by logging in with an administrator account.

Step 5

In the control panel of the second computer, open the network connections section and right-click on the local network connection to bring up the properties.

Step 6

In properties, open the General tab and then call the properties of the Internet Protocol TCP / IP. Set the value "Obtain an IP address automatically", click OK. You can also set the IP address manually - if the address of the primary computer is 192.168.0.1, then the address of the second computer will be 192.168.0.2. Click OK and close the control panel.
