Blogging enthusiasts owe the birth of the new blogging platform to two people who also contributed to the creation of Twitter - Biz Stone and Evan Williams. From their comments on the appearance of the Medium.com portal on the Internet, it follows that this variation of the social network should bring the blogosphere to a new stage of development.
In their opinion, Stone and Williams, today there has been tremendous progress in enabling anyone to post their content on the Internet, but there is no movement towards improving the quality of the content itself. They tried to solve this problem to some extent by creating a new platform for keeping personal diaries. Its main difference from the same Twitter is that the blogger does not have his own page and is not obliged to take care of attracting visitors to it. It only provides content for a collection of certain topics, and the system automatically places materials for all posters in accordance with their novelty and popularity with readers. In this way, according to the creators, the collections are automatically filtered according to the quality of the content.
The Medium.com portal does not require new registration from Twitter users - they can log in using their accounts in the microblogging service. Messages in the new system are divided not by author, but by subject. For example, “I was there and I liked it” about different places on the planet, “Writer's room” with different texts on literary topics, “Look what I did” - descriptions of various private projects, etc. Each such collection has its own design template. However, there are no special design delights in them, you can even say that the authors of Medium have chosen minimalist blog design styles.
News authors can attach images or photos to posts and are not limited to 140 characters like Twitter. Readers in the new system have the opportunity to express their approval of the news published by someone, and this vote will be taken into account when distributing the order of the entries in the collection. The total rating of the popularity of each message on a ten-point scale in the new service is visible to readers. The creators of the new platform say that so far they have implemented the minimum set of functions and it will continue to expand in the future.
