A beautiful, sonorous and well-remembered domain name can be the main component of a resource's success. It often happens that an Internet project suddenly becomes very popular on a domain. In this case, resource owners often buy a more suitable name and move the site to another DNS server. But such a process promises the loss of a significant part of the audience, and it is important to minimize the risks.
It is necessary
- - access to the administrative panel of the site, hosting control panel,
- control panel for a new domain;
- - Internet access;
- - ftp client program;
- - modern browser.
Instructions
Step 1
Post a notice on the website about the planned transfer. Specify the new domain to which the server will be moved, as well as the time and date when the corresponding work will be performed. It is necessary to place a notice in advance, before the very change of address. This will allow more users to read the information about the transfer, and you will also create the time that it will take to delegate the new server.
Step 2
Add the server where the site will be transferred to the list of domains of the hosting account. Do this in the control panel. This will display a suitable directory structure, the domain records will be added to the DNS server, and the domain itself will become part of the supported hosts on the http server.
Step 3
Make adjustments to the domain's DNS server list. Find out what are the addresses of the DNS servers that serve the domains of the server where the site is installed. Usually, such information is provided on the hosting page or in the hosting account control panel. Log in to the domain control panel (located on the reseller's or registrar's website). Modify the DNS server list. Save your changes.
Step 4
Wait until the domain has been delegated with a list of new DNS servers. Typically, changes to the data of the zone's root DNS servers occur every 6-8 hours. It will also take time to update your ISP's caching DNS servers.
Step 5
Make sure that access to the server where the site is located is possible by domain name and via HTTP. To do this, place a test html file in the root directory of the site and try to load it in a browser.
Step 6
Proceed with server migration. Close access to directories corresponding to the old and new domains using basic authorization. Disable chron. Back up your site files and site databases.
Step 7
Copy all site files from the directory corresponding to the old server and domain by connecting via SSH. Correct the CMS config files. Go to the admin panel and configure the required configuration parameters, if required. Disable basic authorization on the old and new server.
