An IP address is a unique network address for a computer on a network. You can tell someone from your friends or acquaintances the IP address of your computer in the local area. Then they can connect to you to share files or play online.

Instructions
Step 1
You can find out your IP address in LAN by opening a window for viewing the status of a network connection or using the ipconfig console utility.
Step 2
To determine the IP address in the properties of the network connections of the Windows XP operating system, open the "Control Panel" and go to the "Network and Internet Connections" category. In the category that opens, go to the "Network Connections" section and right-click on the "Local Area Connection" icon. In the menu that opens, select the "Status" item and in the window that opens, go to the "Support" tab. A window will open in front of you, which contains the current parameters of the local connection, among which there will be the IP address currently being used.
Step 3
To find the IP address in Windows 7 or Vista, open the "Control Panel", go to the "Network and Internet" category, in which launch the "Network and Sharing Center". Go to the "Change adapter settings" window using the link located in the left side column. In the window that opens, network connections will be displayed, among which find the desired local network connection and right-click on it. Select the status item in the menu and in the window that opens, switch to the "Details" tab. This tab contains a lot of information about the selected connection, among which you can find the IP address.

You can very quickly determine your local IP address using the standard console utility ipconfig, designed to configure network interfaces, which is installed by Microsoft in all versions of the Windows operating system.
Step 5
The utility works in the command line, to start which click on the "Start" button and click on the "Run" menu item. In the window that appears, enter cmd and click the "OK" button. A command prompt window will appear on the monitor screen. The command line operates in text mode, accepting the names of the utilities to be executed as text commands. After executing the command, it returns the result as text strings back to the command prompt window. To find the IP address, type the ipconfig command and press Enter. The screen will display the parameters of all network connections. Among the parameters for each connection, its IP address will be indicated.
