To turn on the computer via the Internet, the Wake On LAN technology is used. To implement this feature, you must first configure your network adapter to receive special Magic Packets and install one of the free power management and packet data retrieval utilities. The wake-up option must also be enabled in the BIOS of the computer.

Network card and motherboard with Wake Up on LAN support

Instructions

Step 1

Preconfigure the parameters of your network card. To do this, go to the computer properties (right-click on "My Computer" - "Properties"), select the "Hardware" tab - "Device Manager" (for Windows 7, this item is on the left side of the window).

Step 2

In the appeared tree of devices connected to the computer, select "Network cards" and double-click on the name of your adapter. In the new window go to the Power Management tab.

Step 3

Check the boxes next to "Allow this device to turn off" and "Allow this device to wake up the computer." Click "Ok".

Step 4

Download and install one of the utilities that allow you to receive the Magic Packet. Of the free programs, Magic Packet Utility, Wake on LAN is worth noting. Also, on the official website of the AMD manufacturer, you can find a similar AMD Magic Packet Utility.

Step 5

Install the selected application and configure the settings according to the parameters of your network and network card. Typically, applications require you to enter the IP address of the network and the MAC address of the network adapter. After completing the settings, send a request, after which your computer will turn on.

Step 6

If the startup does not happen, then check the BIOS settings. To do this, while turning on the computer, hold down the corresponding key, the name of which is usually indicated at the bottom of the screen when turning on. Select the Power - Power Up Control option. The Wake On LAN or PCI modem line must be set to Enabled. Save all changes with the F10 key and try to start the computer from the Internet again. If the attempt fails again, then most likely your network card does not support Magic Packet reception.
