Often times, network access to the Internet has to be restricted to ensure greater security. To do this, you need to set special settings for local networks so that users of other computers do not have the opportunity to access the Internet.
Instructions
Step 1
Configure system protection settings if you do not want your computer to remain a proxy server for network users. Make sure your internet connection is not publicly available. Click on the "Start" button and select "Network Connections". In the menu that opens, select the line "Show all connections".
Step 2
Look for the internet connection icon as soon as the list of active connections opens. Right-click on it and select "Properties". Open the "Access" tab. Uncheck the box next to the item "Use an Internet connection to communicate with other network users."
Step 3
Remove permission from other network users to control sharing. Exit the settings menu by clicking on the "Apply" button.
Step 4
Activate the protection installed by default in the Windows operating system. Once you open the Control Panel, find the System and Security icon. In it, select the "Windows Firewall" tab and click on the "Use recommended settings" button.
Step 5
Continue to the Advanced Options section after activating the service. Click the Connection Rules tab. Select Create Rule.
Step 6
Check the box next to the "For port" item. On the left side of the screen, select Protocols and Ports by activating the All Local Ports service. After clicking on the "Next" button, click on "Block connection". Click on the "Next" button several times to save the settings. Restart your computer to apply the specified settings.
Step 7
Try to use programs to control traffic over local area networks. Tmeter and BWMeter are among the many similar software options. Their functions are similar, but the first option has the advantage of being completely free.
