Step 1
There are two different options for connecting two computers to an ADSL modem. Both of them are not very convenient and have a number of advantages and disadvantages.
Step 2
Consider a situation in which you need to create a local area network between computers by connecting them to the same modem. The disadvantage of this method is that you cannot access the Internet from both computers at the same time.
Step 3
Connect your ADLS modem to a network hub. Connect the latter with a network cable to each computer. In this case, the simplest switch of the "1 input and 2 output" format will suit you. Configure both computers according to your ISP's requirements. The disadvantage of this method is that you can only connect to the Internet from one computer.
Step 4
If you need Internet access from both computers at the same time, then the second method is suitable. Connect the two computers together with a network cable. Connect one of the PCs to the ADSL modem.
Step 5
Open the LAN settings between computers on the first PC. Select "Internet Protocol TCP / IP". Fill in the "IP address" field with 192.168.0.1. Press Tab to get the subnet address.
Step 6
Open the properties of your Internet connection and go to the "Access" tab. Allow Internet access for the local network between computers.
Step 7
Open the local network settings on the second computer. In the "IP Address" field, enter 192.168.0.2. Enter the address of the first computer in the Default Gateway and Preferred DNS Server fields.
Step 8
With such a network setup scheme, you will be able to simultaneously access the Internet from both computers. The disadvantage of the method is that to access the World Wide Web from a second computer, the first one must be turned on, and the Internet connection must be active. Therefore, as the main computer, you should choose the one that is turned on more often.
