Opening and correctly configuring ports allows you to achieve high Internet speed for this Internet channel. The correct set port value is a key parameter when downloading data through a particular program. The desired port can be opened using the standard Windows firewall or through the console.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the program through which you download files or browse the Internet, go to its settings. Find the port value in the network options and change it to any other. Choose gateways with a numerical value of more than 40,000, because the rest are most often closed by an Internet provider. Some programs (eg uTorrent) have a button to automatically generate a port or an option to randomly select a value.
Step 2
Save the changes made to the program and go to the Windows Control Panel. To do this, open the "Start" menu - "Control Panel". In the window that appears, select "System and Security" - "Windows Firewall".
Step 3
In the left part of the window that appears, click on the "Additional parameters" link. On the new screen, select "Inbound Rules" - "For Port". Enter the port number that was specified in the program you are using, click "Next". Select the line "Allow the connection".
Step 4
Also Windows Firewall allows you to allow any connections for a specific utility. To do this, in the "Inbound Connection Rules" window, specify "For the program" Enter the path to the application executable file and specify the appropriate parameters in the firewall settings window.
Step 5
You can check the availability of the port specified in the program using special Internet resources or the command line. Go to the Start menu and type cmd in the program search bar. Select the very first search result.
Step 6
Enter the command netstat -a -n -o. This request will display a list of open and currently used ports and active connections. The port number appears after the colon in the IP address. If the port is open and operational, it will be displayed in the console window.
