The overwhelming majority of users work on the Internet using the HTTP protocol, using one browser or another. However, many resources also provide FTP access, which can be very convenient. Knowing how to use this protocol will enable more efficient use of network resources.
Instructions
Step 1
Many servers provide the ability to use FTP through a regular browser. However, it is better to install an FTP client to use FTP resources conveniently. For example, you can download a very convenient program CuteFTP on the network or use the well-known program manager Total Commander, which also has an FTP client. You can download CuteFTP from the developer's official website:
Step 2
Download and install CuteFTP. Since you are using a trial version, at startup you will be asked to enter a key (you can find it on the net). Enter it or click the ExcelContinue button. The connection wizard window will open. Check the Do not show this warning again line and click Next.
Step 3
In the new window, enter in the top field the address of the ftp-node to which you want to connect. For example, enter this address: ftp: // 62.152.55.238 - you can download one of the Linux distributions (ALTLinux) from it. In the bottom field, give the node any name. Click Next. In the next window, select the login method - "Anonymous". It is he who is used to log into most ftp servers. In this case, you do not need to specify a username and password. Click "Next", the connection to the ftp server will be established.
Step 4
When viewing data on an ftp server, you will work with the same directories as on your computer, that is, with regular folders. After connecting to the above node, open the pub directory, then distributions - ALTLinux. Select the latest distribution - 5.1. Then - iso: this is where the image for burning the installation disc is stored. You will see an archive file that you can download by simply dragging it into the left window of the program, into any of your folders.
Step 5
When working with Total Commander, to connect to the required node, select from the menu: FTP - New ftp connection. Enter the address and press OK. The left window of the program will show the folders of your computer, in the right - the server directories.
