Instructions

Step 1

The function of storing the history of messages is one of the most demanded functions of ICQ. This function can be active or inactive. By default, this feature is active. The client provides a choice of storing the type of messages: "Save message history with contacts from my list", "Save message history not from my list", "Save service messages". There are several ways to view and delete messages in history.

Step 2

Viewing and deleting history through the ICQ client. Select the contact you are interested in with the right mouse button, in the menu that opens, select "Message history". A window will open with all the messaging history for the selected client. In the window that appears, the functions of searching for messages, deleting history, saving the entire history to a file with the *.txt extension to any selected location on the hard disk are implemented. To delete the entire history of correspondence with the selected contact in the "Message History" window, click the "Clear" button. The history will be deleted. In addition, in some ICQ clients, the function of deleting only some messages of correspondence is implemented. To do this, in the "Message History" window, select the desired message with the right mouse button, and then the "Delete" menu item. The selected message will be removed from history.

Step 3

The history of correspondence is a text file with the *.txt extension, located in the directory with the installed ICQ client files. To define the directory, open the properties of the client shortcut located on the desktop. The "Object" field contains the path to the installed ICQ files. Open the folder with the installed files. In it, find a folder called History. It contains files with the *.txt extension. The names of these files correspond to the numbers of contacts with whom correspondence was carried out. Use the ICQ client user interface to determine the number of the contact you are interested in. Using any text editor, for example, "Notepad", open the file, the name of which coincides with the number of the contact you are interested in. The file that opens contains the entire history of correspondence with the selected contact. You should work with the message history as with normal text, i.e. it can be viewed, partially or completely deleted, new entries can be added. After editing, you must save the changes.
