Correspondence in any instant messaging clients is saved in special files. Depending on the settings, these files can be stored both on the computer and on a remote server. You can find the history of messages in ICQ in the following ways.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the ICQ program and view the history using the standard tools of the application. To search for the history of correspondence with a specific person, open the message window by selecting his contact in the client window. After that, click on the button with an icon in the form of the letter "H" ("history" - history), which is located between the chat and the text input field. After clicking this button, a special window will open, which contains all the correspondence with the contact in chronological order (the newest message will be at the very bottom). With this viewer, you can also search the message history for any request.
Step 2
Launch any file manager and go to the directory containing the ICQ client files. Any correspondence conducted in ICQ clients is automatically saved to a special.txt file that can be read using a text editor. For example, to view the history of messages, if the correspondence was conducted using the QIP program (which is an alternative client of the ICQ protocol), go to the folder located at C: / Program Files / QIP / Users (UIN) History. This folder contains all the correspondence that took place. In this case, the name of each file corresponds to the UIN of each contact with whom the correspondence was conducted.
Step 3
Go to the official ICQ website under your own username and view the message history saved on the server. The server stores only the history of messages with those contacts that were specified in the program settings. In order to save history on the server, open the message window with the desired contact and specify "Save archive on the server" in the settings. This can be done using only the official ICQ client.
