All addressing using domain names on the Internet is based entirely on the global hierarchical DNS system. Its structure and principles of operation imply the ability to obtain a variety of data on the available resources. For example, MX records contain information about the domain's mail servers. You can view them using special utilities.
Necessary
the ability to run nslookup on the target machine
Instructions
Step 1
For operating systems of the Windows family, start the command processor. To do this, click the "Start" button located in the taskbar on the desktop. In the menu that appears after this, click on the "Run" item. The "Run Program" shell dialog will open. In its "Open" field, enter the value cmd. Click OK.
Step 2
On UNIX-like systems, go to a text console or start a terminal emulator. The transition to the text console from the graphical environment is performed by simultaneously pressing Ctrl, alt="Image" and one of the F1-F12 keys, after which you must enter your credentials for authorization. You can usually start the terminal emulator from the graphical shell menu.
Step 3
Check out the help for the nslookup command. On Windows, use the built-in help system for detailed information on the operation and parameters of the nslookup command. On Linux, you should use the man or info documentation for the same purpose by running the man nslookup or info nslookup commands in the console.
Step 4
Run nslookup interactively. Just type nslookup in the console (without any parameters) and press Enter.
Step 5
Change the type of records requested by the nslookup command to MX. In the console enter:
set querytype = mx
and press Enter.
Step 6
View MX records for one or more domains. Enter the domain name, press Enter. Wait until the end of the process of receiving data by the program. Analyze the displayed information.
Step 7
Exit nslookup. Enter exit. Hit Enter. If you want to exit the console, type exit and press Enter again.
