Mail. Ru mail service allows the user to set a secret question, as well as an answer to it. Forgetting the password, you can tell the server this predetermined answer, after which it will be possible to change the password to a new one. If it so happens that the answer to the security question has become known to others, it should be changed immediately.
Instructions
Step 1
Log into your mailbox on the Mail. Ru server through a regular web interface (not WAP or PDA, and not through a mail program).
Step 2
When the page with the "Inbox" is loaded, scroll down and then click on the "Settings" link at the end of the page.
Step 3
After loading the settings page, follow the link titled "Password recovery data".
Step 4
Select a password from the drop-down list or leave active the item "- Select a question -". In the second case, in the field "Or enter your own", enter the question manually. Formulate it so that you cannot guess the answer from it.
Step 5
In the "Answer to question" field, enter your answer. Do not enter information there that is known to anyone else but you. In particular, do not enter phone numbers, cars, passports, birthdays, weddings, pet breeds and names, and the like. The answer should be complex enough, for example, if the question sounds like "What color is a mathematical analysis textbook", then the answer "Red" or "Green" is easy to pick up, and "Pale red with thin green streaks" is much more difficult. But this answer is also more difficult to remember.
Step 6
It is better not to provide an additional email address. This will avoid breaking the main box if an additional one is hacked.
Step 7
Enter the captcha in the field "Specify the code in the picture", and the password for the mailbox in the field "Current password". Click the Save button. After that, the answer to the security question will change.
Step 8
You can also get the opportunity to recover your password using SMS. To do this, go to the page for changing the answer to the security question again, and then follow the link "Specify a mobile phone".
Step 9
Sign out of your mailbox by clicking on the "Sign out" link located in the upper right corner of the page. Then check how well you remember the password and the answer to the security question.
