What is a Moderator? Maybe who is this? Modern man will say that the second question is more correct. And it turns out to be wrong. A moderator can be a person or an inanimate object. It depends on what meaning of this term is in question.
Initially, the moderator was a special third pedal available on some pianos. It has a lock and allows you to play very quietly - so quiet that such a game is unlikely to disturb the neighbors. Many modern musical instruments of this class also have moderators. It is interesting that in the work of Lev Kassil "Conduit and Schwambrania", written long before the creation of the Internet, the word "moderator" was perhaps first used in a figurative meaning - "one who settles conflicts ". Isn't that what the large army of modern moderators has to do, keeping order in forums, chats, blogs? How many senseless disputes - the so-called “holivars” - have they prevented! The most common type of moderation is post-moderation. It assumes an instant hit in the chat, forum or blog feed of each of the messages you just posted. If then the moderator notices that one of the messages does not comply with the rules of the resource, he deletes such a message or edits it. Pre-moderation is somewhat less common. It has both advantages and disadvantages. With this type of moderation, the message is first checked and only then published. And if the moderator believes that this or that participant can be completely trusted, instead of pre-moderation, he turns on the post-moderation mode for him, thereby at the same time making it easier for himself to work. And vice versa, on a resource where post-moderation is adopted, a pre-moderation mode may be introduced for some participants who regularly break the rules. Agree, this is less offensive than a complete ban on participation - the so-called ban. In chats, there is automatic moderation using bots. They operate according to the simplest algorithm, expelling participants who have allowed themselves to swear obscenely. In forums, sometimes the automatic removal of such expressions is done by the "engine". It is clear that such a primitive defense does not replace a human moderator. It is an honor to be a moderator, but this position also implies responsibility. Inexperienced moderation may not settle the conflict, but, on the contrary, kindle it, which plays into the hands of the trolls - this is how provocateurs are called on the network. To avoid this, the moderator must be a good psychologist, not succumb to provocations himself. But whatever the mode of moderation on the resource that you use, remember the rule: public discussion of the moderator's actions is prohibited. It's not that hard to send him a personal message instead.
