Page thumbnails are miniature displays of photos, videos, and document pages within folders on your computer. They make it much easier to find the desired picture among the rest, especially if there are a lot of them in the directory. The downside of this convenience is the increase in the time it takes to open a folder, which can make it inconvenient to work on a weak computer.

Instructions
Step 1
Starting in Windows Vista, page thumbnails are combined with file icons. They work according to the principle: if you can make a sketch, then a sketch will be displayed, if not, an icon. Unless the settings specify to always display icons. Therefore, in these versions of Windows, there is no Thumbnails item in the View menu.
Step 2
To enable thumbnail display, open Control Panel and navigate to the Appearance and Personalization category. Select Folder Options. In the window that opens, go to the "View" tab. Check the box next to Always display icons, not thumbnails. If you want the thumbnail to display the file type icon, check the box next to Show file icons in thumbnails. Click the Apply and OK buttons.
Step 3
Next, go to the "Control Panels" "System and Security" category. Enter the "System" subcategory and click on the "Advanced system parameters" link located in the left side panel. In the window that opens, switch to the "Advanced" tab and click the "Options" button for the "Performance" section. Go to the Visual Effects tab and check the box next to Show thumbnails instead of icons. Click the "Apply" button and close the settings windows by clicking the "OK" buttons. Windows will now try to display thumbnails when browsing folders.
Step 4
To turn off the display of page thumbnails to improve the performance of your computer, uncheck the checkboxes described in the previous steps.
Step 5
To customize the size and display type of thumbnails, go to the desired folder. Click on the icon with icons and lines of text located in the upper right corner of the "Explorer" under the search box. Select the display that is most convenient for you by repeated clicks on the "Change view" icon.
Step 6
You can immediately set the desired view by clicking on the small triangle next to the icon. It will expand the list with 4 icon sizes available without displaying additional information about the file. You can quickly set a view in the "View" context menu item, which is opened by right-clicking on an empty section of the folder.
Step 7
Thumbnails for most files appear in other views as well. "Tile" and "Content" - additionally display information about the file size and the date of its last modification. The most detailed information is displayed by the "Table" view. By default, it additionally displays the file type, but by right-clicking on the column names, you can select additional columns from the list.
