The terms "blog" and "blogger" have entered our lives thanks to the programmer Evan Williams, who created the Blogger service. Later, he launched the equally popular Twitter project, which allows you to post messages up to 140 characters long.
Evan Williams' latest project was the Medium blogging platform. A feature of this recently appeared service is that when users post articles and photos, the system automatically sorts them, placing them in a collection corresponding to the topic. If the site visitor liked the content of the article, he can mark it by clicking on the button "this is good" (this is good). The highest rated publications are placed at the very top of the page. There are several collections currently created on Medium - The Obvious Collection, The Writer's Room, Look What I Made, I was there and I liked "(Been There. Loved That).
According to the creators, they tried to rethink the principles of public blogging in the context of modern realities. They think most people just want to view pages with interesting content. When creating Medium, they focused on the merits of services such as Pinterest, Reddit, Tumblr. The very name for the blogging platform was chosen because Blogger lets you express yourself in long posts, Twitter in short posts, and Medium in medium ones.
On the site, each user can choose a topic of interest to him and view the entire collection of publications on it. Thus, users of the system will only need to care about the quality of the published material, and not about the development of the audience to which it is addressed. This will provide the highest quality content and ultimately help make a new social evolutionary leap. Since the project is still in its early stages of development, it is difficult to say if it is as innovative as the developers describe it.
So far, the process of posting records is rather slow. Users can only register and get on the waiting list. Moreover, registration is still open for those who already have their own Twitter account. However, soon the project will be available to everyone.
