To pay for the Internet connection in the classical way - via an analog modem - scratch cards are most often used. Such a card is equipped with a protective layer, after erasing which the authorization code can be read.

Instructions

Step 1

Use an analog modem connection only if this method of Internet access is more profitable in your area than others. When choosing a modem, pay attention to the interface through which it connects to the computer. Your machine must have an appropriate port. If necessary, use an adapter that allows you to connect a modem with a COM port to the USB port of a modern computer. Avoid so-called soft modems as they are difficult to set up and capricious to work with.

Step 2

Check if your computer has an analog dial-up program. On Linux, it may be called KPPP or WvDial (depending on the distribution). In older Windows versions, with an unconfigured connection, a program of a similar purpose can be launched automatically along with Internet Explorer (after dialing, you can launch another browser). In newer versions of this operating system, you will have to use a third-party program: EType Dialer, DialUp Prof, etc.

Step 3

Erase the protective layer from the card. Don't put too much pressure on it to remove the text underneath. Run the program for dialing, and in its settings specify the port to which the modem is connected. The location of the corresponding menu item depends on the program. Enter the phone number of the modem pool indicated on the card. If a username and password are indicated under the protective layer, enter them in the appropriate fields. Click on the "Connect" button or similar. After the end of the call, you can start visiting sites.

Step 4

If an access code is indicated under the protective layer of the card instead of the login and password, enter the guest login and password indicated on the unprotected area of the card. Connect to the modem pool and go to the provider's website, whose address is also indicated on the card. The blocking system simply won't let you to other sites. Follow the link, which may be called "Registration" or similar. Enter the security code, fill in all the required fields marked with asterisks, and, if desired, optional ones, with no asterisks next to them. Click the button, which may be called "Complete registration" or something similar (depending on the provider).

Step 5

Go to the "dialer" program. Disconnect the connection, replace the guest login and password with the new ones obtained during registration. Connect again, and from now on you will be able to visit any sites.

Step 6

Unlike modern methods of Internet access, when connecting via a modem, in most cases, the unit of tariffication is not a month of access or a megabyte of received and transmitted data, but a minute of connection. Funds are debited from the card while the modem is holding the line, even when no data is being transmitted. Therefore, during breaks in work, if at the same time nothing is connected, disconnect the connection. Some providers do not charge billing during the night period, for example, from 2 am to 6 am, but it can be difficult to get through at this time.
