The Auto Disconnect feature in Internet Explorer performs the task of terminating the connection with the ISP after the selected time interval. Any changes to the settings for this function will only take effect after the connection is terminated and the browser is restarted.
Instructions
Step 1
Bring up the main system menu of Windows version Millenium with Internet Explorer version 5.0 and higher by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Control Panel" item. Open the link "Internet Options" and use the "Connections" tab of the dialog box that opens. Specify the item "Dial-up network access" and select the command "Settings".
Step 2
Use the setup button in the next dialog and select the Dialing tab. Uncheck the box next to "Disconnect when no Internet connection is required" and confirm the application of the changes by clicking OK three times (for Windows Millenium Edition with Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher).
Step 3
Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button, and go to the "Settings" item (for Internet Explorer versions 4.01, 4.0, 3.02, 3.01 and 3.0). Expand the link "Control Panel" and expand the "Internet" node by double-clicking. Use the "Connections" tab of the dialog box that opens and select the "Settings" command. Uncheck the "Disconnect if idle time more than xx minutes" checkbox and confirm the selected task by clicking OK twice (for Internet Explorer versions 4.01, 4.0, 3.02, 3.01 and 3.0).
Step 4
Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Settings" item (for Internet Explorer version 2.0). Expand the link "Control Panel" and expand the "Internet" node by double-clicking. Use the Auto Connect tab in the dialog box that opens and uncheck the Auto Disconnect box. Confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking the OK button.
Step 5
For the changes made to take effect, in each of these cases, you must interrupt the Internet connection and restart the browser.
