There are two types of Internet connections that require user authorization - PPPoE and VPN. PPPoE is used in xDSL technology, while VPN is used to connect to private virtual networks.
Instructions
Step 1
To turn off the Internet on the operating system Windows XP, do the following: open "Start" and select "Control Panel". Then select from the list "Network Connections" there you will see the name of your Internet connection.
Step 2
Click on the connection twice, you will see a window. In the middle there will be three buttons - "Properties", "Disable" and "Diagnostics". Click on the "Disable" button and wait a couple of seconds. The connection will be dropped and there will be no internet access. You can check this by trying to go to any site. Regardless of whether you have a PPPoE or VPN connection, the window with detailed information will be exactly like this.
Step 3
To turn off the Internet in the Windows 7 operating system, find the network icon. It is to the left of the clock (computer with cable), click on it. A pop-up window will appear showing a valid internet connection. Click on the connection and select Disconnect. After a couple of seconds, the connection will be successfully terminated.
Step 4
If you need to see the same window as in Windows XP, click on the network icon and select "Network and Sharing Center". Then click on the "Change adapter parameters" item. You will be transferred to the familiar "Network Connections".
Step 5
If your Internet connection is distributed over Wi-Fi, then you can turn it off using the above methods. In Windows XP, you need to go to "Network Connections", and in Windows 7, just open a pop-up window that is activated by clicking on the network icon. In extreme cases, you can turn off the modem or pull out the network cable from the system unit. Disconnect the modem by pressing the power button on the back, and do not unplug the power supply from the outlet: this may cause the modem's settings to go astray, or even worse - the modem will not work correctly.
