Editing of bookmarks parameters can be carried out both using the interface of the Opera bookmarks management section, and manually using a text editor. The browser places bookmarks in a special file in the system user folder. This document has a text extension, which makes it editable.
Placing a bookmark file
Depending on the version of your operating system, the Opera bookmarks file is stored in the corresponding user folder. To clarify the location of this directory on your system, you can open the program window by clicking on the appropriate shortcut on the desktop or on the quick launch panel. After that, in the address bar of the program at the top of the window, enter the query opera: about. The screen will display information about the current version of the utility being used.
The section "Path to the profile folder" will indicate the location of the folder where the application settings are stored in the system.
In Windows 7 and 8 operating systems, these utilities are located in the folder "Start" - "Computer" - "Local drive C:" - Users - AppData - Roaming - Opera. In Windows XP, this folder is located in the My Documents directory. To see the required directory, click on the "Properties" menu in the top pane of the Windows "Explorer" window. After that click on "Folder Options". Go to the "View" tab, where check the box next to the "Hidden files and folders" section - "Show hidden files". Click "OK" to save the changes.
Changing the bookmark file
After accessing the Opera folder, find the bookmarks.adr document. Right-click on this file and select "Open with". In the list of programs that appears, select "Notepad".
Structurally, all layouts are arranged in blocks. Each link has a corresponding set of parameters that affect its display in the application menu. The ID parameter helps to return the serial number of the bookmark for the browser. This line should not be edited, because it does not affect the display of items.
The NAME parameter is responsible for the name of the bookmark in the program menu. The URL defines the address that the program navigates to when the link is clicked. The CREATED section defines the creation time of this item (in UNIX format). Description displays the description that appears when you hover the mouse over an item in the program's bookmarks menu. The UNIQUEID attribute assigns a unique value to the link.
The #FOLDER identifier indicates the names of subfolders in the bookmarks directory. Edit them if you want to change the names of directories in a similar way to links.
Modify the NAME and URL parameters in the Notepad window by entering the appropriate text value after the = sign. Save the changes made by clicking on "File" - "Save" in the program window. Then start Opera and check the settings made.
The manual method of editing links is especially useful when you need to change the name of several items in the bookmark menu.
