The problem of non-localized software constantly arises before the average user: not every game you need has a Russian-language variation, and not everyone can work with a foreign one. Therefore, the issue of Russification does not lose its relevance, and minimal knowledge in this area can be useful to everyone.

Step 1
Have all the information you need ready. When starting to translate any program, make sure that all the terms used in it are familiar to you. It is necessary to do this even when using a translator, because the quality of machine translations always leaves much to be desired and it is simply necessary to modify them manually. If you are translating a game, then you need to know the setting and storyline: often the characters' lines are not arranged in chronological order, which means that it will be quite difficult to guess what is happening in the context. It is highly desirable to have at least basic programming skills. After all, you have to work directly with the program code, and therefore it will not always be possible to manage with a simple text change. The range of possible problems is extremely wide, and therefore the solution to each has to be sought individually.
Step 2
You will need a resource editor program. The range of those on the market is quite wide: for novice users, Resource Hacker or Restorator is suitable, more advanced users can use ResHack. Programs differ from each other minimally - each allows you to "get inside" the program and edit all the content at your own discretion.
Step 3
Using the resource editor, methodically start going through the program files. In one of them you will find all the text information of the program (or most of it). You can edit everything right in the search window, but you cannot always thoughtlessly change all words to Russian. For example, take into account the operability of the code (violation of the integrity of the program can lead to the inoperability of the file), recognition of the Cyrillic alphabet by the program (which is not always the case) or the size of the field with the text (it often happens that the inscription "Save game" simply does not fit where it used to be Save Game). You may also face the fact that the program will be packed or protected - solving problems of this kind requires serious qualifications.
