Step 1
Virtual memory is an assistant to RAM memory. Both literally and figuratively. Heavy applications, software packages and gaming systems can take up a large amount of free memory at startup and during operation. When the resources of free RAM are exhausted, virtual memory comes to the rescue.
Step 2
The paging file is located on the hard drive on the system partition. Since the speed of reading and writing data to solid-state media is several times lower compared to the same operations for RAM, the paging file is used to store unused libraries and large temporary files.

The setting of this option for all systems of the Windows family is the same, but the paths to the "Virtual Memory" applet are different. If you are running Windows XP, the startup path will be as follows. Open the Start menu and select Control Panel. In the window that opens, double-click on the "System" icon and go to the "Advanced" tab. In the "Performance" block, click on the "Parameters" button. In the window that appears, open the "Advanced" tab and select the "Change" option.
Step 4
For Windows Vista and Windows Seven, the procedure is slightly different. Open the Start menu and select Control Panel. In the window that opens, double-click on the "System" icon and go to the "Advanced system settings" tab. In the "Performance" block, click on the "Parameters" button. In the window that appears, open the "Advanced" tab and select the "Change" option in the "Virtual memory" block.
Step 5
When entering values, you need to know the size of the RAM. The maximum value is calculated using the following formula: paging file = RAM size x factor 1, 5. It is recommended to use the current fast memory size as the minimum value.
