If you have a volume of Anna Karenina at home, you can safely throw it away: now it is not a literary masterpiece, but dangerous propaganda of suicide with a detailed description of one of the methods of suicide. Under the guise of protecting children from unwanted information, the authorities are trying to censor the Internet.
On July 28, 2012, the State Duma amended the law "On the Protection of Children from Information Harmful to Their Health and Development." It is proposed to introduce filtering of Internet sites, adding to the "black list" resources recognized as provocative. Experts believe that the adoption of these amendments is a direct path to the introduction of censorship in the vastness of the network. They are afraid of establishing a totalitarian regime, imposing restrictions on freedom of speech. According to one version, the imposed power is trying to maintain its position, control the "thinking" of the masses and dictate its own terms.
The bill has caused an extensive wave of indignation both among Internet users and among the owners of large resources. Many sites decided to protest and temporarily stop working. The strike was attended by Wikipedia, Yandex, Vkontakte, Twitter and LiveJournal. Instead of the usual display of information they were used to, they referred to the new law, openly condemning it.
It would seem that the thoughts of officials are transparent and pure: they want to protect children - the future of the country - from pornography, drugs, suicide and extremism. But "something is wrong in the Danish kingdom", it is not in vain that the "sharks of information business" and ordinary citizens sound the alarm: not only the principles of democracy are under threat. If the law comes into force, the very opportunity to freely express one's opinion on the most pressing, most painful issues may sink into oblivion. So what, the authorities want to drive people underground and throw the country back into the Middle Ages?
“They found 17th century paintings with naked angels in the corners. Children? Children. Naked? Naked. Here's baby porn. " This is one example of how the bill will be interpreted in the future. Moreover, nothing will prevent the officials themselves from posting provocative information and covering up unwanted resources. Censorship will become an instrument of arbitrariness in the hands of people who have seized power. Russia will be separated from the progressive world by a real "electronic curtain". That is why it is so important to defend the right to freedom of information and prevent the introduction of censorship.
