There are many different ways to expand a local area network. If we are talking about a wireless access point, it is most reasonable to connect a modem to it, which will transmit the signal to other devices.
Necessary
Network cable
Instructions
Step 1
You can connect your modem or router to the access point in two ways: wired and wireless. First, create a cable connection. Connect the new router to the device on which the access point was created.
Step 2
To do this, connect the WAN (Internet) port of the router to the LAN (Ethernet) connector of other equipment. This connection method will allow you to create a new wireless access point.
Step 3
Connect a laptop or computer to the LAN (Ethernet) channel of the router. Open a browser and enter the IP of the device in the address bar.
Step 4
Open the Internet Setup menu. Give the router a new static IP address (if needed) and designate the LAN port as the primary Internet access channel.
Step 5
Open the Wireless Setup menu. Create an access point similar to the one that already exists. Naturally, change the SSID (Name) of the new wireless access point.
Step 6
If there is no possibility of cable connection of the equipment, then the settings should be slightly changed.
Step 7
Open the Wireless Setup menu and configure the wireless access point connection. The disadvantage of this method is that you cannot create a new wireless network.
Step 8
Connect all computers and laptops to the Ethernet (LAN) ports on the router. Go to the Internet Setup menu. Allow all local computers to use this router's wireless connection to access the Internet. Enable DHCP function so as not to configure the LAN settings on each computer.
Step 9
If this function is not available, then open the properties of the network adapter on any of the computers and go to the properties of the TCP / IP protocol. Find the "Default Gateway" and "Preferred DNS Server" items. Enter the IP address of the router in them.
Step 10
Fill in the "IP address" item in the same way, changing the last segment. Repeat this setting for all other PCs or laptops.
