The clock built into the server's motherboard should be set as precisely as possible. This determines, in particular, the accuracy of the indication of the time of sending messages in the forums. You can determine the time on the server remotely.
Instructions
Step 1
It is possible to determine the time on the server indirectly. To do this, log into any forum located on it and send a test private message to yourself. Immediately after sending it, check the time indicated on the page with the current one. Due to delays, the accuracy will be low.
Step 2
If you are a server administrator, enable the mode on it that allows you to connect using the SSH protocol (secure shell). Set up a complex username and password. Do not use the insecure Telnet protocol instead of SSH. It is best to configure the server so that you can only connect to it from within the local network. The way to do this depends on the OS installed on the server.
Step 3
To find out the date and time on the server, connect to it via SSH using any client of this protocol. Such clients are created both for computers with different operating systems, and for smartphones based on Android, Symbian, Bada, iOS, Windows Phone 7, and even phones based on the J2ME platform. If the server is running a Linux or BSD operating system, enter the date command - the date and time information will be displayed on the screen at the same time. On Windows, the date command only prints the date and time only the time. They also allow you to set the appropriate parameters.
Step 4
A Linux or BSD server with the ntpdate package can be made to automatically synchronize the time with the NTP server. The latter receives information about the exact time from an atomic clock (local or installed on a navigation satellite). Select an NTP server with the same time zone as the one installed on your server. Then enter the command: ntpdate ntp.server.domain, where ntp.server.domain is the domain name of the NTP server. Do not repeat calls to him more than once every four seconds, otherwise you will be automatically banned by IP address.
