- - the instruction below
Instructions
Step 1
The first and most reliable way to find out your network connection settings is to contact your provider's support team. This data may also be needed when setting up a computer's Internet connection for the first time.
Step 2
If your connection works and receives settings automatically, you can find out them as follows: click the "Start" button on the desktop, in the main menu that opens, select the "Run" item.
Step 3
Enter cmd on the line, click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, enter the ipconfig / all command.
Step 4
In the displayed list of settings, find the line Default gateway (translated as "Default gateway"). The address opposite this line is the address of your gateway.
Step 5
There are other ways to find out the gateway address. For example, you can see it in the properties window of the connection of your computer's network card to the Internet. To do this, open the main menu of the computer with the "Start" button, find "Control Panel" and in the "Settings" section, click the "Network Connections" line.
Step 6
A folder with shortcuts of all created connections will open in front of you. Find the current one among them and call its context menu. In it, select the "Status" item, a window with information about this Internet connection will open. Select the "Support" tab. The address of the main gateway of this connection is located on it in the very bottom line.
Step 7
If the connection to the Internet is not carried out directly, but through a router (router), this router will act as the main gateway of your computer. Then the address obtained by the above method will be its address for the internal network. In order to get around this obstacle, you must either connect the Internet connection cable to the network card on your computer directly, or contact your provider's support service and clarify the address of the default gateway.
