Browser freezing can be caused by a complex script, an attempt to play a video with too high resolution, a large number of simultaneous open tabs. In this case, you do not need to reboot the entire computer. It is enough to forcefully close and restart the browser itself.
Instructions
Step 1
In some cases, the browser may close itself if it crashes. After that, it will probably open a window asking if you need to send a crash report to the developer. If access to the Internet is unlimited, it is better to share such a report with the developer, and thereby contribute to the elimination of the detected error in the next versions.
Step 2
On Linux, with KDE running, click on the close window button (with the letter X). The browser will not close immediately, but after about ten seconds a window will be displayed with a proposal to force the application to close. Click the "Yes" button. You can close the browser in Windows in the same way, but not always.
Step 3
In the graphical JWM environment, find the button of the running browser on the taskbar, right-click on it and select the Kill item in the context menu that appears.
Step 4
Also on Linux, no matter what graphical environment you are using, you can force the browser to close from the command line. To do this, start the console and enter the killall command with an argument in the form of the name of the browser executable file name. For example: killall opera. You can also enter the ps x command, find out which process number corresponds to the browser, and then force the process to end with the kill nnnn command, where nnnn is the process number.
Step 5
In Windows, press Ctrl + Alt + Del and in the window that opens, select "Task Manager". Switch to the Tasks tab, find a browser among them and press Del. When asked if you really want to complete the task, answer in the affirmative.
Step 6
After successfully closing the browser, launch it again. Clear any error messages displayed on the screen (for example, if there are any unremoved lock files). If you are asked whether you need to close all old tabs before launching, it is better to answer in the affirmative. Otherwise, the loaded pages may cause the browser to freeze again.
