For a server to be accessible to all Internet users, it needs a direct and permanent IP address. In addition, it is desirable that it has a DNS record - this will allow visitors to enter the domain name into the browser instead of the IP address.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure that the computer that you intend to use as a server has sufficient processing power to handle the planned number of requests to it. Upgrade it if necessary. Install on it an operating system designed for long, uninterrupted operation on servers and equipped with reliable security tools, such as CentOS or OpenBSD.
Step 2
If the machine does not have Apache software, download and install the appropriate packages. If the site that you want to keep on the server is dynamic, download any content management system (CMS) and place its files in the folder specified in the Apache documentation. Place in it the materials that you want to upload to the server. Make sure that they do not violate the rights of third parties and do not contradict the legislation.
Step 3
Order an unlimited direct permanent IP address from your provider. Please note that the monthly subscription fee will be several times higher than with a simple Internet connection (also unlimited). Find out what exactly is the address assigned to you.
Step 4
Start the server software on the machine. Make sure that the site is accessible from any computer or phone by entering the IP address of your server into the address bar of your browser.
Step 5
Contact a domain name registration organization such as Jino, Logol, Reg, Caravan. Register for yourself any convenient and affordable second-level domain name. It is also necessary to delegate the domain, that is, to place information about its correspondence to the IP address of your computer on at least two DNS servers. Often this service is provided by the same organization. Remember to pay regularly to renew both services.
