The problem of moving to another hosting can arise for various reasons. It is very important to know how to make the move correctly so as not to lose either the site files or the base on which the web resource operates.
It is necessary
- - information for connecting from the old hosting provider;
- - information for connecting to a new hosting provider;
- - information for entering the control panel of the domain registrar;
- - all site files and the base on which the site operates.
Instructions
Step 1
During the transfer process, the site will be unavailable for some time. It should be kept to a minimum, but it cannot be done without it. It is necessary to make sure that none of the potential visitors to the site is hurt because of this. To do this, you can simply disable access to the site by means of the management system on which the web resource is running.
Step 2
Download all site files to your computer. In order to find out which specific files need to be downloaded, you need to understand which folder they are taken from. This information should be contained in the hosting control panel from which you are moving. If this information is not available, you should ask a question to a technical support representative. The common names for the folders that contain the site files are www or httpdocs, but the folder may be named differently.
Step 3
If the site uses a database, then you need to copy it too. To do this, you need to go to the database management tool. This is usually phpMyAdmin. Using the functionality provided by this script, you need to copy the structure and content of all tables. As a result of such an operation, a text file should be obtained, which will subsequently be imported to the hosting, where the move is made.
Step 4
If a 2-level domain is used, you need to change the entries in the domain registrar's panel. The technical support of the hosting site where you are moving should provide information about the IP address and used NS servers. It is recommended to change the NS servers on the domain, but sometimes simply writing the IP address in the A record helps. It should be borne in mind that changing NS servers on a domain may result in the site being unavailable for a period of 2-3 hours to 2-3 days.
Step 5
Using the information provided by the new hosting provider, upload all site files using FTP. If the database has not been created, then create it and import all tables exported from the previous hosting there.
Step 6
Almost certainly, the access details for both FTP and databases will change on the new hosting. This change should be reflected in the configuration files of the content management system by writing new access details in the appropriate places.
Step 7
At this stage, the site should already be working with the new hosting. If this is not the case, then, most likely, the absence of a working site is due to changes in entries in the control panel of the domain registrar. If the site opens, but errors are displayed on the screen about the impossibility of recording or opening a file, then you need to correct the access rights. This can be done using an FTP client.
