In order to be able to work on a computer in a new operating system for yourself, there is no need to remove the existing operating system from the PC and install another one. There are software tools for this - virtual machines. They emulate a real computer with an operating system. If you have Windows 7 on your computer, then a virtual machine is already built into it. In the case of Windows XP and Windows Vista, you can choose between the free Windows Virtual PC, VirtualBox, and VMWare Workstation for which you have to pay. Let's consider creating a virtual machine using Windows Virtual PC 2007 as an example.
Instructions
Step 1
Download Windows Virtual PC 2007 from https://www.microsoft.com, having selected the program language from six European languages, Russian is not among them
Step 2
Run the installation file. Agree to the license agreement and click Next. Enter your name and organization name, the key to the program has already been entered. Click Next, then Install.
Step 3
After the installation is complete, run the program. The New Virtual Machine Wizard window will appear. Click Next and then select Create a virtual machine. Select a location for the virtual machine and type in its name. In the next window, select the operating system that you want to install on the virtual machine. Then specify how much RAM you will make available to the virtual machine. After that, create a virtual hard disk by selecting the A new virtual hard disk option. Specify its location, name and size in megabytes.
Step 4
Install the operating system on the virtual machine. In the Virtual PC Console window, click the Start button to start the virtual machine. Drag the ISO image of the operating system to the virtual machine window, which will be used as a boot disk. Or select Capture ISO Image from the CD menu and select an ISO image. Then the installation of the operating system will begin.
Step 5
After installing the operating system, you can install a package of add-ons to the virtual machine from the Internet that will improve its performance. To install it, on the Action menu, give the Install or Update Virtual Machine Additions command.
Step 6
To configure other parameters of the virtual machine, click the Settings button in the Virtual PC Console window.
