Step 1
Before using ICQ, you need to install a client program that will allow you to exchange messages. Go to the official website of the ICQ.com service and click "Download ICQ". You can also download alternate versions that are used for instant messaging in the service. So, another popular communication program can be QIP and Miranda, which have no less functionality and can also be downloaded from the developer's official website.
Step 2
After the download is complete, run the resulting file and follow the instructions of the installer to install the application on your computer. After installation, you will receive a notification on the screen. Then you can launch your program by double-clicking on the desktop icon that appears with the name of the installed client.

In the window that appears, specify the data for logging into your ICQ account, namely UIN (9-digit number of your ICQ) and password. Hit Enter. If all the data is correct, after logging in, you will see a list of your contacts and now you can receive messages from other users of the service.

To read the received message, double-click the left mouse button in the program window on the contact, near which the received message icon is displayed. You may also see a blinking icon in the application window or the Windows notification bar, located on the right side of the Start bar. Click on this icon to open the message.
Step 5
A window will open in front of you, in which the text of the message sent to you via ICQ will be written. After reading it, it will change its status to received, which will be displayed in the window of the user who sent this letter. To reply to a contact, move the mouse cursor to the text field located at the bottom of the window and left-click to place the pointer. After that, start typing the text of your response. Once the answer is typed, click the "Submit" button. Receiving and sending messages to ICQ is completed.
