Individual cores of AMD processors can be easily unlocked thanks to the crystal structure. In order to save money, the company sometimes uses defective crystals. And they are blocked solely because they cannot operate at a higher frequency without excessive heat release.
Instructions
Step 1
Only Athlon II and Phenom II processors labeled X3 or X2 can be unlocked. Most likely, after the unlocking procedure, you will have to equip the processor with an appropriate cooling system, otherwise, if the processor is overclocked, it will quickly fail - it will burn out.
Step 2
The unlocking of the processor cores occurs using the BIOS - the basic input-output system. Restart your computer to enter the I / O system and press the appropriate key on your keyboard. It could be Del, one of the F buttons in the top row - it all depends on the BIOS version. You will see an inscription like Press Del to enter (run) Setup.
Step 3
In the case of motherboards from Gigabyte, you need the IGX Configuration menu item. Select the Disabled value from the CPU Unlock menu that appears - this will enable some processor parameters that were previously unused.
Step 4
You can unlock the processor core in the case of an Asus motherboard by pressing F4. Biostar boards have a special feature called Bio Unlocking. It does not differ much from similar items from other manufacturers.
Step 5
Press F10, save all changes. When the OS reboots, errors may occur, such as the famous Blue Screen of Death. It appears because defective cores cannot be overclocked, and therefore if you change some of the wrong parameters, it can appear. If this happens, just return the original settings (item Load Optimized Defaults or something similar).
Step 6
If the blue screen does not appear, check the system for errors anyway. The LinX utility is suitable for this. If in this case you find problems, defective kernels should be blocked out of harm's way.
