The success of website promotion on the network largely depends on the choice of a domain name - this is a big topic, almost an art. And when the choice is made, another, purely technical question arises - how to register a new domain and link it to your site. More on this below.
Instructions
Step 1
Finding a domain name for your site. A domain is a unique name for a site on the network, consisting of at least two parts separated by dots. A two-part domain name is called a second-level domain, a three-part domain name is called a third-level domain, and so on. The last part of the domain name is called the "zone". If your domain ends with ".ru", or ".ua", or ".de", then no one will doubt that this is a Russian, or Ukrainian, or German site. These are "territorial" zones. And nothing can be said about the territorial affiliation of the com, org, net zones - these are "non-territorial" zones. Choose a zone for your domain based on your goals. It should also be borne in mind that the prices of registration and annual payments differ - for example, a domain in the ru zone is at least twice as expensive as in the com zone. In addition, to register in the ru zone, your passport data is required. The choice of a domain name requires special attention - the success of your website promotion largely depends on it. At a minimum, it should be as short and memorable as possible, and at the same time contain words that are directly related to the topic of the site. You can use numbers and letters, dashes and underscores in the name. The domain name must be between two and 57 characters in length.
Step 2
Domain registration. As a rule, hosting companies provide a domain registration service - that is, you can do this through the website of the company that hosted your website on its server. But in this case, you will have to carefully read the rules that the hosting company adheres to. For example, some of the hosters register your domain in their own name and transfer it to you for use. In this case, when changing a hoster, small, and sometimes not so small, problems will arise. Therefore, it is better to register a domain with a company that specializes in this.
Step 3
Linking a site to a domain. It remains to link the site and its new domain name. This operation has two parts. The first is to let the hosting company's servers know that when a visitor requests your new domain, it should be directed to your site. If you already have a domain, and the site has not yet been hosted, then it will be enough to indicate the domain name when filling out the registration forms with the hosting company. And if the site is already hosted, then in its administration panel you need to add a new domain. Different hosting companies have this function implemented differently, if you cannot find it yourself, ask the technical support. The second part of the linking procedure is to inform the domain registrar to which the hoster should send visitors requesting your domain. To do this, you need to know two names of the "DNS servers" of your hosting. Usually these names are provided in the letter confirming the placement of your site. You can find them in the "Frequently Asked Questions" section of the hosting company website, and in the hosting control panel. These addresses should be entered in the appropriate fields on the domain registrar's website. When both parts of the procedure for linking a domain to the site's hosting are completed, you just have to wait from half an hour to a day for this new information about your domain to be distributed over the network.
