To connect to the Internet, each computer is assigned an IP address - static or dynamic. How to fix it so that there are no problems with access to the network?
Instructions
Step 1
Read the terms of the agreement that you entered into with your provider when connecting to the Internet. Find out if it is possible to assign a dynamic IP address to you, or if you will have to enter into a new agreement in order for your computer to be assigned a static address. After that, however, you will need to provide an increased level of security. For both computer and IP address.
Step 2
Use the services of attaching a domain name to your dynamic address. They are available online (free) or from an ISP (paid). Pick a specific address for yourself and bind it to your dynamic IP.
Step 3
If you want to assign a user account to a specific workstation (that is, to a specific IP address) in order to prevent access to it from other computers, you must have network administrator rights for this. Open DirectAdmin, go to User Properties, select the Login to tab. Provide the names of all computers from which the user can access the account. Fix the addresses using the command (example):
host host {
hardware ethernet 00: 13: 8F: 4B: 8E: 82;
fixed-address 192.168.1.2;
Step 4
If you have several home computers connected to a common network through a router, change its settings to prevent IP address conflicts. Write down your address for each computer (one digit difference). For example, if the router distributes addresses from the 192.168.1.1 network, then you will need to enter:
- on the first computer:
192.168.1.2 (the IP you need)
mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
- on the second computer:
192.168.1.3 (the IP you need)
mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
Step 5
If you need to fix the address for a relatively short period of time, then connect to the Internet, convert the dynamic IP to static in the network connection settings. After that, do not interrupt your Internet connection until you are interested in the address being pinned.
