The Internet connection to your computer via an ADSL connection is performed using a telephone line and modem connection. To ensure the correct operation of the modem and phone at the same time, you should use a splitter. A splitter is a kind of filter that can split the frequency of channels into multiple branches.

It is necessary

  • - ADSL modem;
  • - connection cable;
  • - splitter.

Instructions

Step 1

Modern automatic telephone exchanges allow you to transmit several frequency signals through one cable, for example, a standard telephone line and the Internet. Several years ago, this technology was still unknown, so Internet access and calls to a subscriber's number were made separately. Today the splitter allows this "priority section" to be fulfilled.

Step 2

For a good connection, you should exclude any twisting of wires on the way from the PBX to the connection to the network card. Any breakage of even a part of the wire leads to a deterioration of the incoming signal, which can lead to unstable Internet operation (low download speed, increased ping, etc.). If there are adhesions or twists, it is advisable to call a wizard who can replace the telephone cable with a continuously running wire.

Step 3

The most advantageous location of the telephone socket for connecting the splitter is the place near the computer itself, because the splitter divides the telephone cable into two parts, one of which connects to the network card. The remaining cable is connected to the telephone set, which can be carried anywhere using a long cable.

Step 4

Take the splitter in one hand and the main telephone cable in the other. Connect the cable plug to the LINE connector of the splitter. On the opposite side of the splitter, you will see two connectors: for a modem and for a landline phone. Connect the device plugs to the corresponding splitter jacks (PHONE and MODEM).

Step 5

After connecting the splitter to the telephone line and devices powered from it, it is necessary to check the functionality of the created circuit. Turn on your ADSL modem and then turn on your computer. If, when downloading files from the Internet, calls can be received on your landline phone, and you can exchange information when you pick up the phone, therefore, the connection was organized correctly.
