When connected to the Internet, most users do not use the additional service of a static IP address on the network. Of course, in most cases a static address is not needed, but what if you do not have a static address, but you need to connect to your computer from the outside, which requires knowing the IP address?
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, for Windows operating systems, open the Start menu, go to Control Panel. Open the "Network Connections" section, right-click on the icon of your Internet connection and select "Status". In the window that opens, select the "Support" tab. Your IP-address will be written in the corresponding line “IP address”.
Step 2
For Unix systems, open a terminal and run the following command:
#sudo ifconfig
or as administrator root -
#ifconfig
The screen will display the properties of all network interfaces available on the computer. The network connection to the internet will be named ppp0 or ppp1. Its IP will be written after the word inetaddr.
Step 3
But it is not always possible to find out the IP of your Internet in this way - many providers mask the real IP of the client. To find out your real IP from any operating system, go to one of the following sites - https://2ip.ru, https://speed-tester.info, https://www.myip.ru. Your IP address will be displayed on the web page. At the same time, pay attention to the line "Proxy": if it says "in use" opposite it, it means that your computer is connected to the network through an intermediate proxy server, and it is impossible to find out the real IP of the computer. Most often, this method of connection is used in organizations in the workplace
Step 4
On Unix systems, you can also find out the IP of your Internet by running the following command in the console:
#wget -O - -q icanhazip.com
Your address will be displayed.
Step 5
If you are connected to the Internet through a router, then open the router's control panel and go to the "Status" tab. The external IP address will be listed on the corresponding line.
