Most websites today are built using CMS or standalone scripts. This effectively means that the content of the resource is generated dynamically. Therefore, we can talk about the size of the site both in terms of assessing the disk space it occupies on the server, and in terms of the amount of content available for download by the user.

How to find out the size of the site

It is necessary

  • - data for access to the hosting account control panel;
  • - data for accessing the server via SSH;
  • - Teleport Pro program.

Instructions

Step 1

Find out the size of the site based on the calculation of the total amount of disk space it occupies on the server of the hosting company. Go to your account dashboard. In some panels (for example, DirectAdmin) the amount of used disk space is displayed on the main page. If such information is not provided, separately find out the sizes of all databases and directories with files, and then simply add them up. Information about databases can be obtained in the corresponding section of the control panel. To determine the size of directories, you can use the web file manager, or the du command with the -s and -P options, connecting to the server via SSH.

Step 2

Start sizing your site based on an estimate of the total volume of all the content it provides to users. Use Teleport Pro to download site content to a local drive. After installing it, start creating a project by choosing New Project Wizard from the File menu.

Step 3

Create a project in Teleport Pro by switching between wizard pages and setting the required parameters. So, on the first page, select the Duplicate a website option, on the second - specify the resource address in the Starting Address field and increase the value in the Up to field to the maximum. On the third page, highlight the Everything option, and on the fourth just click the Finish button. Save the project to a file, specifying the directory in the dialog that appears. All downloaded data will be located in the same directory.

Step 4

Find out the size of the site. Select Start from the Project menu. Wait until all resource data is fully loaded. Please note that this can take a long time and result in a lot of traffic. Find out the size of the directory in which the downloaded data is stored using the file manager or the Windows folder properties dialog. This value will be the volume of the site.
