When transferring a site from one server to another, the main task of the administrator is to preserve not only the appearance of the resource, but also to import all user data and settings. Instructions
Step 1
Copying a site to Joomla consists of 2 parts: copying files and transferring the database, where all the content is stored. Both operations are performed separately. Prepare the target server in advance by deleting all.htaccess and index.php files, as they may not be replaced if names match.
Step 2
Connect to your old hosting using any FTP client (like FileZilla, CuteFTP or Total Commander). Download a copy of the site to your computer hard drive. To do this, just drag and drop all files from the root folder on the remote server to a previously created directory on your computer. After completing the procedure, make sure that all data is safe.
Step 3
Connect to the server you are moving to. Move the site from hard drive to hosting using FTP, wait for the download to finish. The most important thing is to keep the original file hierarchy, i.e. load all data exactly as it did on your first host.
Step 4
Go to the phpMyAdmin database control panel at the old address. Select the name of the Joomla base on the left side of the page window, go to the "Export" tab. Click on "Save as", click "Start". If this utility is not available on your hosting, use the available functions, or ask the provider's technical support service to provide you with a copy of this database.
Step 5
Create a database on the new hosting and go to phpMyAdmin. Click on the name of the database in the left pane and select the "Import" tab. Specify the path to the saved database file and wait for the end of the procedure.
Step 6
Open the configuration.php file in the root of the already copied site and change all settings in accordance with the parameters of the new server. Replace the values of the variables $ host, $ user, $ db and $ password. $ live_site is usually left blank. Copying completed.
