Instructions

Step 1

The Event Log can be viewed through the Event Viewer applet. To run this application, you must open the "Start" menu, then select "Control Panel". In the window that opens, click on the "Administration" line and select the appropriate application from the list. You can also launch this program through the "Run" applet: press the Win + R key combination, enter the eventvwr.msc command and press the Enter key.

Step 2

All events that occur in the operating system can be conditionally divided into system and software. After running this applet, you can see 2 categories: Application logs and Windows log. Each of these categories has event files, i.e. log files. They are located at the following location:% System folder% System32 / Winevt / Logs. Instead of the system folder, you must put the path C: / Windows or another.

Step 3

Log files can be opened using a text editor, as well as through the "Event Viewer" applet itself. To do this, open the top menu "Action" and select the line "Open saved log". In the window that opens, find the required file, select it and click the "Open" button.

Step 4

Here you can create a new directory where you will place the necessary log files. Click the New Folder button and enter a name for the folder in the empty Name field. Click OK to create the directory and close the current window. The future location of the new directory is in the "Saved Logs" section.

Step 5

To open a log file using a text editor, you need to go to the directory, select the file and right-click on the text document with the log extension. In the context menu, open the "Open With" section and select any text editor such as Notepad or WordPad.
